The highlight of her career was the publishing of "The Hawk: an Allegory of Freedom"; it was published 11 weeks before the first Sputnick. Ms. Ayers-Allen is the only poet acknowledged at NASA. Other highlights include being the first person to bring Cassius Clay (Muhammad Ali) to the public as a poet and working on a project in gerontology in the arts for the National Endowment for the Arts in Houston. She has accomplished all of this while putting on performances and surviving as a woman in a place where few American woman can claim to have served as advisors to the National Endowment for the Arts.

She became involved in her profession because she was a member of the last graduating class in 1939; she wanted to restore the institute so that it could be remembered for the establishment it was.
